I think it would have been a good idea to close the side hatch and depress the barrel before flipping the Grant onto its side. But maybe the hinges on the hatch and the elevation gears of the gun are tougher than I think.

I think the tank was cobbled together with whatever they had sitting on shelves. It was probably never expected to be serviced before it was destroyed, or abandoned??😂

An M3 Grant painted as 23972 was sold at the Melbourne Tank Museum auction in 2006 to R&R services and went to the UK and is currently with Kevin Wheatcroft. So this must be the original 23972. Interesting.

Just thought I'd add a comment addressing everyones concern for the side door, being open. The side door and hinges are extremely strong they have to be as strong as the side armour and designed to withstand being hit by enemy fire, including high explosive! I also know Ron personally, and he is no fool! If you couldn't already tell. If he thought for one second the door or any other part would get damaged, he wouldn't have flipped the tank!

I know a sheep station that has a tank but can't remember what it is. Pretty sure it use to be used grading roads, clearing trees etc. Now just sits in the shed.

There are instructions in Italian on the door of the BergePanzer. Does the German one come from Italy?

great stuff - the grant was an ugly beast with additional parts that morphed into what we know today quite an amazing machine, the progress on this will be challenging but epic - and it's the right call to turn it back into its original state as when built - i say this many times, with military vehicles, boats and planes, they were built and had a history from the day it was delivered to it's present day and tomorrow - pick a year and be authentic, but don't make it into something it wasn't - i have seen vehicles painted in sand, when either it or it's type was never used in that theatre - i did a De Havilland Hunter for a museum, in its Danish markings, apparently i did such an authentic job on it, it's actually better than one in the Danish museum - great work guys

When flipping the tank over. I think I would have locked up the side hatch and maybe take the small parts off of the top. Like the pariscope and a few other things so you don't have to go fixing them later.

You should of closed the side hatch. Hope you didn't rune the hinges

I used to wonder what the grant would have been like as a tank destroyer.. just the hull 75mm and whole lot of armour on the hull front..

so much for that side access door.. those hinges took a hit in that roll over. not sure why he didnt close that before tipping it over?

This man really knows his stuff!! It makes lots of sense to do one in its original production form if there are plenty of the upgraded versions. Side by side would really show the difference. Great video!
